Level 2 DUI Course in Florida

Level 2 DUI Course Florida: 21 Hours & Cost

The Level 2 DUI course in Florida is a 21-hour education program for drivers with more than one alcohol- or drug-related driving offense. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) licenses every provider that teaches it. Courts and the DHSMV both order it. You cannot get your driver’s license back until you finish it. Boca Bay DUI Program is a state-approved DUI school serving drivers across Broward County and Palm Beach County.

Level 2 is not a longer version of Level 1. It is a different class with a different job. Level 1 teaches first-time offenders about impaired driving. Level 2 works with repeat offenders on substance use patterns, high-risk behavior, and relapse prevention. Class sizes are capped at 15 students so instructors can work with each person. This guide covers the hours, the cost, the paperwork, and the deadline that trips most people up.

What Is the Level 2 DUI Course in Florida?

Florida Statute 316.193(5) requires DUI offenders to complete an approved DUI program. Rule 15A-10 of the Florida Administrative Code sets the standards. Under those rules, licensed programs offer two courses. Level 1 is a 12-hour class for first offenders. Level 2 is the 21-hour class for people with multiple offenses.

Every Level 2 program has two parts. The first is classroom instruction. The second is a private one-hour substance abuse evaluation with a certified evaluator. You must finish both parts. One without the other does not count.

Who Must Enroll in a Level 2 DUI Course

You are required to take Level 2 if any of the following apply to you:

  • You have two or more DUI arrests or convictions in your lifetime
  • You have a DUI that was amended down to reckless driving, plus another alcohol or drug-related offense
  • You have already completed a Level 1 DUI course at any point in your life
  • A judge or probation officer orders Level 2 as a condition of your sentence
  • The DHSMV requires it before it will review your license reinstatement

The rule looks at your lifetime record, not the last five or ten years. A DUI from twenty years ago still counts. If you took Level 1 back then, your second offense sends you to Level 2 now.

Level 1 vs Level 2 DUI Course

Feature Level 1 Level 2
Classroom hours 12 hours 21 hours
Who it is for First offense Second or later offense
Maximum class size 25 students 15 students
Substance abuse evaluation Required Required
Treatment referral Sometimes Common
Typical cost $330 to $400 $500 to $600

The 21-Hour Requirement and Class Schedule

The state sets 21 hours as the minimum for Level 2. Programs deliver those hours in a classroom over several days. Boca Bay DUI Program runs the class across a single weekend. That keeps time away from work to a minimum.

Day Session length
Friday 4 hours
Saturday 8 hours
Sunday 8 hours
Evaluation 1 hour, scheduled separately

Attendance is strict. You must be on time for every session. Arriving late or missing a block means rescheduling, and rescheduling fees apply at most programs. You also cannot attend after drinking. Programs test for alcohol, and a positive test removes you from the class.

The Substance Abuse Evaluation

The evaluation is a private interview with a certified evaluator. It lasts about one hour. Boca Bay offers it in English and Spanish. The evaluator reviews your driving record, your test results, and your history with alcohol and drugs.

The purpose is to find out whether you have a substance use problem. If the evaluator finds one, you get a referral to treatment with a provider licensed by the Department of Children and Families. Most Level 2 students receive a referral. Treatment is billed separately from the course fee. Your completion certificate will note any referral you receive.

Your answers are protected. Federal rule 42 CFR Part 2 keeps alcohol and drug program records confidential.

Level 2 DUI Course Cost in Florida

Most Florida programs charge between $500 and $600 for Level 2. Fees are set by each licensed provider, so the exact number changes by county. Providers in Palm Beach County commonly charge around $534.

The fee usually covers more than the class itself:

What the fee includes
21 hours of classroom instruction
The one-hour substance abuse evaluation
Your lifetime Florida driving record
Driver Risk Inventory (DRI) testing
State assessment fee
Your completion certificate

Enrollment fees are not refundable. Contact Boca Bay DUI Program for the current Level 2 fee and any payment plan options.

What to Bring When You Enroll

Bring the following documents to registration. Missing paperwork delays your start date.

  • A valid photo ID
  • A copy of your arrest report and probable cause affidavit from the Clerk of Court
  • A copy of your court order or probation order, if you have been sentenced
  • Your certified lifetime Florida driving record, dated within the last 30 days
  • Your breath, blood, or urine test results

Enroll with a program in the county where you live, work, or attend school. Enrolling elsewhere requires written permission from your home county program.

The 90-Day Deadline

This is the rule that costs people the most money. You must finish the class and the evaluation within 90 days of the date you enrolled and paid.

Miss that window and three things happen. Your program reports the failure to the DHSMV under Florida Statute 322.291. You forfeit the fees you already paid. You have to re-enroll and pay the full amount again.

The deadline still applies if your criminal case is dropped. An administrative suspension is separate from your court case. If the suspension stands, the DUI school requirement stands with it.

Finish Level 2 With Boca Bay DUI Program

Boca Bay DUI Program is licensed by the DHSMV to deliver Level 1 and Level 2 DUI education. We report your completion directly to the state, usually the day after your final session. Classes run on evenings and weekends. Evaluations are available in English and Spanish.

We also run the courses that often follow a second offense. That includes Advanced Driver Improvement, Basic Driver Improvement, and Special Supervision Services screening for hardship applicants. Contact Boca Bay DUI Program to check the next Level 2 class date and start your 90-day clock with a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Level 2 DUI course in Florida?

The state requires a minimum of 21 hours. Boca Bay delivers the classroom hours over a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, plus a separate one-hour evaluation. Most students finish in one weekend.

Can I take the Level 2 DUI course online in Florida?

No. State rules require DUI school hours and the evaluation to be completed in person in a classroom setting. Online options are available for driver improvement courses like BDI and ADI, but not for DUI school.

How much does Level 2 DUI school cost?

Expect $500 to $600 at most Florida programs. The fee covers the class, the evaluation, your driving record, and DRI testing. Treatment referrals are billed separately.

What happens if I do not finish within 90 days?

Your program reports the failure to the DHSMV, and you forfeit every dollar you paid. You then have to re-enroll and pay the full fee again to start over.

Do I need Level 2 if my DUI was reduced to reckless driving?

Often yes. Florida counts a DUI amended to reckless driving as an alcohol related offense. Combined with any earlier offense or a prior Level 1 course, it places you in Level 2.

Will I be sent to treatment after the evaluation?

Possibly. Most Level 2 students receive a referral because the class is built for repeat offenders. Your evaluator decides based on your record, your test results, and the interview.
